Attorney General Jeff Sessions is a United Methodist, and he is also the face of the Trump administration's widely condemned policy of separating migrant children from their families at the border. In a Friday statement slamming the policy as "a shocking violation of the spirit of the Gospel," the United Methodist Church registered its dissent to Sessions' use of the Bible to defend the separations:

Jesus is our way, our truth, our life. The Christ we follow would have no part in ripping children from their mothers' arms or shunning those fleeing violence. It is unimaginable that faith leaders even have to say that these policies are antithetical to the teachings of Christ.

Christian sacred texts should never be used to justify policies that oppress or harm children and families. [United Methodist Church]

The statement explicitly called out Sessions as a "fellow United Methodist," asking him to reverse the decision to split up families. It noted that the close context of the passage Sessions cited, Romans 13, includes instructions for Christians to "extend hospitality to strangers" and to do "no wrong to a neighbor."

Nearly 2,000 children were separated from their families in April and May alone; some of these families crossed the border illegally, while others are legal asylum-seekers. Read the full United Methodist statement here. Bonnie Kristian

Trump didn't separate any migrant families.

You're either misinformed, or a liar.

It is not the "very same policy" as Obama. Do just a quick google.

What a crock! All that they are really worried about, is a decline in the millions of dollars that they receive for their not so altruistic

refugee/asylum resettlement programs. When will they fully fund such programs from their own collection plates?

It always amazes me, how altruistic that they can be, with someone elses money.

I happen to agree with his church leaders.... Sessions should have sited immigration law instead of the bible. Although the bible does give us guidance to live by and many of our laws and customs are based on the bible, to site of all people Saul aka Paul for his authority was the wrong approach. He should have been prepared or coached with a PC reply when asked this question.... instead he answered with "one" of the reasons he thought would shut up the reporter. I bet he will not make the same mistake again. He will probably huddle up with PC police and memorize the reply that will not set off another fire storm of criticism.

===============
rumitoid, those illegal children and their illegal parents are violating the laws of our immigration. Do you know of any country, who allow and welcome any illegals to their country. Can you fine one? None. Because every country is a sovereign states, in order to orderly provide management of all the population.
These illegals who enter the wide gate of our land leads to destruction.
Those who come through legal immigration enter the narrow gate.

Matthew 7:13-14
The Narrow and Wide Gates
13 “Enter through the narrow gate.
For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. ILLEGALS ENTER through this gate.

14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Legal immigrants enter through this narrow gate. It leads to life and happiness.

Jesus was NOT into politics, MAN put himself into it. So, if man is political, the responses and results are MANs. The liberals want to bring PC in for their own agenda.

Anyone of these is what Sessions should have said if he were not a racist, well familiar with Romans13 as an excuse to maintain slavery:

Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad.
