Why don't the voters demand the elimination of corporate welfare?

SUMMARY Every year, the federal government redistributes hundreds of billions of tax dollars to various housing programs, and provides billions in housing subsidies through various tax breaks. One of the more wasteful of such subsidies is the low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC), a form of corporate welfare created by the Tax Reform Act of 1986. The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 expands the LIHTC, thus ensuring that large developers and investors will continue to benefit at the expense of all other taxpayers, including those the credit is intended to help. Policymakers should limit the federal government’s involvement in the U.S. housing market, including ending the inefficient and poorly targeted LIHTC.

http://www.heritage.org/taxes/report/reduce-corporate-welfare-kill-the-low-income-housing-tax-credit

The government spends nearly 50% more on corporate welfare than it does on food stamps and housing assistance. Where is the outrage over that?

Start cutting government spending by cutting the ridiculous bloated, fraudulent, unaccountable and wasteful military spending of 1 TRILLION a year!

I too can report an income even though I am retired. That’s no excuse. In Houston, Texas, I see every day or so women with several kids hanging on the shopping cart, with a basket load of steaks, soft drinks, and other goods you would think aren’t really that nesessary for this family’s well being. Some are young, perfectly capable of producing some kind of income. Surprise everybody how many of these people are illegals. For about $300.00 you can get a full set of American documents.

How do you know those "women with several kids hanging on the shopping cart" with all those steaks and sodas is on SNAP? You don't. How do you know they are not having a backyard cook-out and hubby has a job? You don't. YOU are just assuming she is one of the mythical reagan "welfare queens". "I see every day or so"? Since you retired, you just hang out in grocery stores? As I am single and retired, I do ALL my shopping and maybe go once every 2 weeks to the grocery store. I think you are full of $h!t!

Sorry, I do not think you are this cold or ignorant. But this is a Republican problem of cognitive dissonance. Prosperous and important by birth and connections, they are blind to the struggles of the common person. Not everyone is bright and has a benefactor. And their are other limiting and personal struggles to be weighed. "Pull yourself up by your own boot straps" is a hellish and damning lie. Some can't afford boots. Mercy and compassion for the downtrodden and disenfranchised is not what the Social Darwinist of the GOP considers. It is anathema. Which gives them every excuse to slash needed programs for the poor and hurt the labor force.

You are full of crap. I come from a lower middle class background, I suppose you could call it. My parents were factory workers. I haven't made minimum wage since the early seventies when I was in high school. What other limiting and personal struggles? Someone drops out of school and demands to be paid more than he or she in their ignorance are worth? If minimum wage jobs were worth more than minimum wage, it would be paid. When minimum was $5.15 I started my dishwashers at $6.50 and raised them in 3 months. My line cooks started at an average of about $2/hour higher than other places. I didn't hire boobs off of the street. I hired competent people, paid them what they were worth, explained what I wanted done and got the hell out of their way.
Bootstraps my ass. Almost anyone with some drive can get out of a hole. People who demand far more than they are worth simply wish to stew in that hole and get paid a little better.
As I mentioned, my youngest dropped out of high school. I'm glad I didn't kill him like I started to. He realized his mistake, got his GED and went to trade school. Now he makes more than most of the college graduates in this area. He works very hard and he periodically returns to school for classes to stay abreast of technology and developments. It's called "self-starting." It's why a high school drop out makes nearly ninety grand a year.

How generous of you. The minimum wage was $5.15/hour from 1997-2006. Its purchasing power during that time fell from the equivalent of $5.03/hour in 1997 to $4.04/hour. in 2006.

http://www.infoplease.com/business-finance/labor-and-employment/annual-federal-minimum-wage-rates-1955-2015

In 2013 WalMart had net revenue of $27 BILLION. They could have afforded to pay their lowest paid 1 million employees $10,000 more and still made $17 BILLION. But according to you those employees were not worth it and just wanted more and to stew in that hole. WalMart's greed had nothing to do with it, eh? Bullshit! Or, did Walmart know those low paid employees could get public assistance and they could pocket that money.

Many large employers, especially in the food and service industries, pay unlivable wages because they can get by with it. Their attitude is if you don't like what I pay go find another job that may or may not pay any better.

Today's minimum wage is a joke, a cruel joke. In 2015 $7.25/hour had the same purchasing power as $4.80 and even at $9.80/hour that walMart employee qualifies for public assistance. Who is being more unreasonable and greedy WalMart executives or that employee?

There are other options besides WalMart and restaurants.
A very good friend of mine had a crappy, low paying factory job. He took his beat to hell old van, an old lawnmower, weed eater and blower and started a part time lawn service business. 6 years later he had five employees, 2 company trucks, a Bobcat and two tractors, all sorts of mowers and smaller equipment and his personal income was about $130,000 that eighth year.
A friend of mine and I years ago did much the same thing although we didn't push it as hard as this guy. We were making about twice the median income for the area and could have done more, but just didn't want to work any harder or add employees.

You stupid moron! The way you tell they are on some kind of handout is when they insert the government debit card into the machine. Trust me they ain’t having a cook out, at least not for less than the whole neighborhood.
You need to get a little more on the ball before this cruel ‘ol world just eats you up. It’ll do that to stupid people....

It has a lot to do with pride and dignity. I see beggars every day here on the street. Even though businesses all up and down the street, are hiring. The new minimum wage, in some states already, of $15.00 per hour, will close a lot of small businesses and some of these chain fast food places. And as you pointed out, it’s rare you will find one of these employees worth much more than $8.00/hour. Half of them can’t read or add two and two..
Good for you and your son!!!

I see your still hanging out in grocery stores spying on women buying food YOU don't approve of for them...eh? Maybe you should get another hobby or 2.

Like I said, I am retired and don't have to worry about me or mine. I have enjoyed gardening and still garden and growing my own vegetables (love to can and give the rest away). I invested in land and gold and silver over the years. Own and live on 100 acres out in the boonies and love to hunt deer, turkey and wild hogs for my own consumption and to give away. Process my own ground meat and sausage and grow as many of my veggies as possible so I don't have to by the chemical laden and GMO crap in the stores.

Oh yea, I draw my Social Security anyway...BECAUSE I PAID FOR IT!

Neither are the 21% elderly and disabled who are also affected by these cuts that the Right portray those on welfare as "bottom-feeders" and "shiftless."

Most god damn people who have those kids have jobs that don't pay enough to feed their kids proper. Do you believe you could provide for a wife and a couple kids on $7.55 an hr when rent might be $1200 to $1800. My daughter ons had to rely on food stamps for her and her two kids when her bipolar husband was placed In a mental hospital for a couple months. She raised her kids and her husband died at 51 and she holds a B. of science in nursing degree, Congress woman Barbra Lee was a single mother when she was young and had to rely on food stamps. She graduated from Mills College and has paid back the cost of her food stamps many times over with her tax dollars
