Yes I was in the Navy 1965---1969.
On an MSO (minesweeper) and an ATF (Fleet Tug)

I'm a Life Member of the VFW and I have to use a scooter to get around.
At the VFW we would rent the hall out to a biker club once a month for their meetings.

At the VFW we had a couple of biker clubs who would rent the hall for their meetings.
I used to joke with them and asked if I could join.
They said I’d have to be able to do a wheeley on my bike.
That left me out.

I dont know alot about the U.S. Navy, i was in the Army, but i have family members and friends that were.
Minesweepers are pretty dangerous from what i know about them.
Were you overseas on any of your tours ?

I try to find humor in everything in life.
The people who do not understand or appreciate my sense of humor seem to be liberals.
Having a quick wit and a good sense of humor requires an intelligent mind.
This is where liberals are lacking.
Firing "Rosanne" is a good example of that.
Current liberal "comedians???" have to depend on profanity or name calling for their act.
I liked comedians like: Johnathan Winters, Red Skelton, Bill Cosby was good.

Yes was in Vietnam 3 tours. The minesweepers were not actually used to find mines.
They were used for surveillance, and the same is true for Fleet Tugs except for:

Forgotten Tragedy At Sea June 3rd 1969
WHERE 74 AMERICAN SAILORS WERE KILLED 49 Years Ago

Oldsailor65, glad and honored to have you with us !
Three tours, damn, my brother steve was on a PBR on the delta in '67 and took a burst of russian machine gun rounds across his legs, at night !
He limps but he is here.
My cousin survived the battle of hue, but he and a friend named charles are still living with what they saw and did there.
You are in a class of vets that stand out to me.
I'm sorry you are in a scooter now, but i hope you still get around and do things.
Did you have incidents where your boats were rigged with explosives or sabotaged ?
I missed that war by a couple of years and without sounding like a coward i am glad.
Thanks to you and your peers for having the balls to go and do a great job.

I didn't experience any danger and though I was in the combat zone for 3 sessions I do not consider myself to be a "Combat Veteran like many were. I volunteered for PBR duty but didn't get it.

Oldsailor65, sounds like you did get the same kind of duty though, what you did was as dangerous, and just being in country was.
I had a drill sergeant who was a leg like i was, but he did several tours on the ground in the jungle.
He was hit by shrapnel and bullets and debris from incoming rounds.
And he told me there were guys with him that never got scratched.
Dont sell yourself short because you didnt get a serious wound, you could have by being there.
Three tours, in a war zone, thats something to be honored for.
My dad boxed in the U.S.Army from '48 to '50.
He was in tenth corp on the other side of the chosin resevoir.
The Marines had around 9,000 men or so on their side but the Army only had around 3,000 men and my dad was a corporal, acting platoon sergeant because the other sergeants were dead or wounded and the platoon commander, a liutenant, was dead.
They were under Marine command and faced almost 100,000 chinese.
When it was over my dad was wounded and evacuated out of a north korean port.
The Army got the shit kicked out of them.
My dad has spoken maybe two words about it.
Thats all.
No whining or complaining.
But some of those guys that came out with my dad never got wounded.
They're all brave men.
I broke my back and was put out of the Army.
You can never tell about why, but you are just like all those guys that dont get hurt.
They are the same as the ones who did.
You guys kicked ass.
My hats off to you ! 🇺🇸
