For The Wall to be successful, it needs an historical flare

Hadrian's Wall had a stone base and a stone wall. There were milecastles with two turrets in between. There was a fort about every five Roman miles. From north to south, the wall comprised a ditch, wall, military way and vallum, another ditch with adjoining mounds. It is thought the milecastles were staffed with static garrisons, whereas the forts had fighting garrisons of infantry and cavalry. In addition to the wall's defensive military role, its gates may have been customs posts, where huge tariffs on burritos and gorditos and pinatas could be made today. It was constantly patrolled day and night, yet now we can have the benefit of spotlights and surveillance cameras. Give those lazy National Guard Units some honest work and a chance to gain some military medals.

"Scholars disagree over how much of a threat the inhabitants of northern Britain really presented and whether there was any economic advantage in defending and garrisoning a fixed line of defences like the Wall, rather than conquering and annexing what has become the Scottish Lowlands and defending the territory with a loose arrangement of forts." Like that assessment of then, for true security now, Trump should just conquer Mexico. After all, according to him, they are mostly "criminals and rapists." The honest Mexican accepts his life in a Drug Cartel and will not cross our border.

Building Trump's Wall by Hadrian design has an unexpected benefit: tourism. Billions of dollars each year could be realized, to offset costs, from "snowbirds" in their RVs and other Americans visiting and traveling the length of The Wall. Government sponsored gift shops, restaurants (selling real American fare), Paintball concessions offering "Hunt an Illegal" games, and so forth, could be a bonanza. Maybe even staged re-enactments of desperate Mexicans drowning trying to cross the Rio Grande for a chance at a better life or ICE raids seizing DACAs at school or jobs. Endless possibilities.

Good idea. How about mine fields? And well-placed enfilade-firing by hidden machine gun nests? Stop those "rapists" in a jumping jack flash.

The battle for the Alamo lasted about eight minutes. All therein died there, or later. 246 Combatants. They had a wall, several actually. Walls do not work.

Hadrian's Wall had a stone base and a stone wall. ... (show quote)

Screw it! Let's go Great Wall of China or Bust! We could make it impressive enough to be seen from space and man it with National Guard personnel.

We could make it a work of art!
