In Venezuela, hungry child gangs use machetes to fight for ‘quality’ garbage

As Liliana picks lice from the tangled, thick hair of her boyfriend, Patricio, while they sit together on the sidewalk of a Caracas street, she’s also multi-tasking, keeping a watchful eye on her “family.” When a 10-year-old girl named Danianyeliz kneels down to drink water from a puddle, Liliana reproaches her, urging her to have a sip from a juice bottle they’ve just found in a garbage bag.

At 16, Liliana has become the mother figure for a gang of Venezuelan children and young adults called the Chacao, named after the neighborhood they’ve claimed as their territory. The 15 members, ranging in age from 10 to 23, work together to survive vicious fights for “quality” garbage in crumbling, shortage-plagued Venezuela. Their weapons are knives and sticks and machetes. The prize? Garbage that contains food good enough to eat.

Liliana has a quick, wide smile and goes by the nickname Caramelo. She takes charge of each day for the group, deciding how much food her “family” will consume and how much they will stash away for another day. She settles conflicts that flare up and gives a hug, a kiss or a pat on the back as needed.

“Caramelo is my mummy and Paola is my aunt,” declared Danianyeliz, a newcomer who joined the gang about a month ago. She left home, she said, because there was not enough food to go around. The “aunt” she referred to, Paola, is just 14 and another member of the gang.

There have been many millions who have starved when Marxism has totally taken over their countries, and done so with the majority's hopeful anticipation. When things really get bad, they blame it on their leaders, but what is a strong testament to the effectiveness of Marxist propaganda, is thatm they never blame it on the stupid ideology that they have accepted.

(Why did you title your article. "The reason I'm voting a straight Democrat ticket in 18 and 20" ????? To trick the libs in to reading it, when they really don't want to be confronted with any proof of the lamebrain stupidity of the ideology with which they align themselves ???)

Correct me if I am wrong Mike. I don't get it either.
It was 2010 when X-president Obama Literally Climbed into bed with the Venezuelan Leader over oil, and to begin a Social Experiment that would ruin that Country. These children you speak of, now have parents who are probably about 16 yrs., from the looks of those photos.
Their lives are no doubt a disaster due to B.O's meddling, and are gang members themselves.
So why in the world would you vote for something that would produce these same results over again?

I may be wrong but Teabag09 heading sounded totally sarcastic to me. Rather as if only a fool would believe the failure in Venezuelan was anything other than a failure of the concept of socialism in its entirety.

Weasel, Steve. That is exactly what I'm trying to expose. If we don't stop the left, our country will go down this same road. I, in knowing you here on OPP, don't understand that you are not seeing my being sarcastic and against what is happening in Venezuela, what is happening in South Africa and many other countries, and can happening here. I can see af1 and others not getting, it but you two! Answer me this. What did you think I was trying to say or get across. It will help me understand how to better post material. Thanks. Mike
