In the last 50 years, women have been reduced from a treasured possession to a casual convenience. A treasure is protected and cherished. A convenience is used without incurring any obligation.

Some women have chosen occupations that carry risks. Some women have chosen occupations over that of housewife. It's apparent they have freedom of choice. Freedom of choice is the American way. Of course I feel sorry for anyone, male or female, that is killed or maimed on the job but that is life. My true sorrow is for those of either sex that have no choice.

As a young woman, I was poor as a church mouse. It was either going to work or living off the charity of others.
I went to work. I worked for 40 years, married a wonderful man and we had a good life. I did not elect to not be a homemaker, there was no choice and then it just became our way of life. Many women find themselves in this position....it takes two incomes to make ends meet. I am not saying that being a homemaker is less important, in fact it is more important than an outside career. All I am saying... for many these is no freedom of choice if they have any pride.

Yes, I have met many ladies that were in the same situation as you. Some made wise decisions; some not. The key words are,"they made the decision", not some government. Based on your post you have a pleasant life so I assume you made wise decisions within those choices that were available to you. I have never met anyone that had a perfect life. We all had,and will have, to chose alternate paths at some time or other. Thank God it is ourselves that can make those choices.

A woman is not a possession, and she should not be considered a convenience. A woman is an equal partner in the journey of life.

I worked until our son was born. When he started high school, I went back to work.

My life has been blessed! We raised our children to be respectful, with love of G*d, and family. They all have made us proud. I do admit, there were times when I had to miss a ball game or a school play, but when I could not be there...their Daddy was in front row! I could not have had a better partner and husband.

I grew up rich on a small farm in South Georgia. We had lean years, we dealt w/ eating more cornbread. We had good years when got close to even w/ the bank, could kill a cow or hog.

The older I get the more I realize how rich my life was in the things that matter. I was taught to respect all people. I was also taught to respect women. My father & grandfather were hard men in a man’s world. Both of them would not be hungry when times were a bit rough so their wives could eat because they believed their wives were the glue that kept things together, & they were, my wife is.

My mother & grandmother worked full time, part time outside and still ran households. My father & grandfather knew how to wash clothes, iron them, cook, mop, sweep, and did after 12 hours in the fields.

I was taught not to pick a fight w/ two exceptions; if I saw someone being bullied & unable to defend themselves or if someone insulted my mother. In those two cases, I had free reins to do whatever it took to win. If someone made fun of my pants being too short or any personal insult, name calling, I was to walk away.

In 1970 I got introduced to a new kind of woman. I friend of mine asked me to come to his plant in TN for his first Tn OSHA inspection. When we had gone over all the records the young lady wanted to see, & went to go in the plant, I opened the door for and she turned around in the door, told me, “Let’s get one thing straight right now I am perfectly capable of opening doors for myself.” I came real close to slapping her for insulting the way I was raised.

I still say yes mam, no sir, please, & thank you to kids now. Hillary better hope she never meets my wife. When she heard what Hillary said about white men telling their wives how to vote, she went off the reservation in rage.

I don’t try to keep up w/ all the bullshit new PC words, am not going to. If respecting women is paternalism, & that is a crime, some law enforcement agency needs to come arrest me & know real well I will not go peacefully. I will insult their mothers’ to pick a fight.

I will die treasuring my upbringing.

No one is anyone's equal partner in anything. It would be wonderful if it could be so but it is not, can not, and never will be. Equality creates competition, not partnership. A successful partnership can only be had when that lacking in the one can be made up for by the other... each playing the role designated by their personal strengths. The two must be stronger together than either is alone.

Women are no longer possesions in Western culture but they were for most of human history. What a woman is considered to be is not determined by the woman. That, unfortunately, is something determined for her.

Why do you pick on Western Civilization. Why don’t you look at the world today & question why American women followed a woman from a part of the world 200 years behind to a march on DC? Why don’t you celebrate the fact that some of the most important rulers in history, ones who shaped the current world, were women?
