What Conservatives REALLY want...

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of our current president. I wasn't particularly enthused by the loser in the last election, either.
I've tried to wrap my head around what either party wants to do in terms of the direction that we're headed. I don't have a clue about actual programs, but I do have a theory about where the Conservatives want to take the country.
If you strip away all the rhetoric and theatrics, and nail them down to absolute basics, here is what I think you find.
They want to make the country into a mono-racial, mono-cultural, mono-theistic, male-dominated nation. Mono-racial means whites only. Mono-cultural means European-descended social norms. Mono-theistic means protestant Christian majority and theology, with these values descending into the law of the land. Male-dominated reverts back to the old days of a paternalistic government, based on the male of the household being the ruler of the roost and sole breadwinner.
Lots of these values are based on Biblical standards.
In this utopia, they would oust all minorities including Jews, Muslims, Asians and blacks. Gays and lesbians would be forced back into the closet behind last year's shoe styles. Women's rights would be curtailed.
I may be wrong, but it sure looks like this from an objective viewpoint.

If you're conservative and if you strip away all the overlay, is this what you truly believe?
I'm sure that many of you will try to argue the cosmetics of this ideology, but can you really and truly argue that these basics aren't what you would feel most comfortable with?

On the other hand, the true liberals would give away the store and their policies would ultimately lead to socialism and all the attendant ills that accompany that thinking. Things like a guaranteed minimum income for everyone, a liberal immigration policy, a politically correct culture for all, and a few other items that I wouldn't agree with. In its own way it's just as offensive as the conservative construct.

There has to be a common ground that we all can agree on, but unless we can start to agree on something and put aside the sniping and name-calling and talk about issues instead of stereotypes, we'll continue to be a divided country that will eventually fracture.

Maybe you need to make some conservative friends and talk to them so that you have an idea what conservative values are. You seem confused. There are white conservatives black conservatives Hispanic conservatives etc. And they all have the same core values. Obviously not a mono culture or we all wouldn't get along. I would talk longer about this bit I need to go to work now to pay my own way. One of the conservative values.

I found it fascinating your views. Conservatism at it's core simply believes in personal responsibility, limited government, & fiscal responsibility. Not sure how that fits with your mono comments. I like the 2nd person's response. Talk with conservatives, all races, and see what they think. Then I'd love to see what you believe then.

OK, enlighten me. Tell me what those conservative values really are. I'm open to listening.

People see themselves in the best light, so, is it possible to actually look beyond our rose colored glasses and see the warts. There are problems with right and left ideology, that is why we need compromise. Negotiation between both sides gets the best outcome usually.

This country is so divided right now that it makes you wonder if that wasn't the idea in the first place.

This problem begins and ends with allowing ideology do our thinking for us, or rather, those people who hijack the ideology. Whenever a politician is seen on multimedia, there is an unwritten rule that an "R", "D", or "I" must be applied. Why? So that folks will know whether to listen to what they have to say or not. We have all been raised as one thing or another and don't ask too many questions about it. A person raised as a Baptist has a 90% chance of remaining a Baptist for life - because they've been indoctrinated to believe that this is the ONLY valid religion. Republicans have been raised to believe that anyone not towing the party line is a RHINO, that Democrats are demons, and liberals are all communists who's only goal is the complete destruction of America. Democrats have been likewise indoctrinated against Republicans and conservatives.

Should "the people" ever be left alone and allowed to think for themselves, the odds of coming together on a common goal goes way up................ it would be more likely that Hillary Clinton admits she lost the election because she was a bad candidate. Every politician tries to force the "platform" to conform to whatever they think will get them elected/re-elected, likewise every party and other political entities. What is best for America or Americans is rather irrelevant, as only what is PERCEIVED to be best at the time is relevant. Meanwhile, those raised as evangelical conservative republicans, will not even consider speaking to anyone not of that ilk.............because they are of the devil. Fiscal conservatives will not entertain the value of government support for anything, unless it benefits themselves or their district.

There is one common descriptor for the Republican and democratic party's, conservative and liberal ideologies, those who subscribe to any of them, and most religions...................SELF SERVING.

Your use of the word 'really' indicates an overriding skepticism to anything other than your own conclusions.

If you seriously want to understand Conservatism, your own research is going to be the key.

What better place to research than a hotbed of conservatives like OPP.

OPP is a battleground of ideas. Truth is not at home in battle.
