The more I study astronomy the more I believe that our existence is not an accident. Just in our solar system moons and asteroids and planets are constantly colliding, being created, and being destroyed. Anything that upsets the delicate balances destroys things. Our planet somehow ended up at exactly the right distance from the Sun for us to exist. Our moon is at the exact size and distance to control our tides. The odds of that coming into place and staying that way for hundreds of millions of years by accident are unbelievable. Therefore science proves the existence of God.

If we are an accident then somewhere else in just our galaxy the odds are some other planet is at the exact spot for another bunch of us to exist. In fact with unlimited stars and galaxies there have to be unlimited us's all over the place, yet I bet we are it. Super novas, quasars, and other nasties are always happening, and yet so far they are nowhere near enough to wipe us out. The odds say that can't happen, not by accident.

Oh, the Earth will still exist. But mankind? Ha! At this rate, we'll be lucky to see out another century.

Only a few more billion years to go!

Think they'll have that whole 'interstellar travel' thing down by then? They're going to need it!

You don't believe in life after death ? You won't be looking down or looking up when the moons of Uranus collide ? You won't be guiding your descendants from the afterlife ? You won't even be a drop of gasoline in some space guy's car a million years from now, like they dinosaurs did for us ? Eternity must really suck, eh ?

I'm not sure if it sucks or not, but I do know it's a very, very, very looooong time. What do you do when you've literally done everything and you still have eternity to go? Not just another million or billion years, but literally eternity.

The more I think about it, the more I'm sure God has a really twisted sense of humor.

We are thinking about eternity going forward. What about going backwards ? Before we were born, we would have gone through eternity backwards. Time goes on forever both ways. If there is life after death, there had to be life before life. I do not believe you can create anything that lasts forever. If our souls last forever, then they had to have existed forever before this life.

We were sitting somewhere waiting a long time waiting to be born into this existence. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
