It is traditional on President's Day that George Washington's farewell address be read aloud on the floor of the US Senate. Well, I'm not in the US Senate, but that doesn't stop me from reading it as well.
So I'm reading through this treasure trove of interesting and profound wisdom, when it hit me. Here was this passage:
"The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation on the ruins of public liberty."
In that one paragraph, our first president, the successful leader of the resistance against the most powerful military machine on the planet at the time, has revealed how a constitutional republic can devolve into the tyranny of an oligarchy, with a single individual as its 'front' or 'face man'.
The "Alternate domination". First one, then the other, and back again. Rinse, repeat. Democrat. Republican. Democrat. Republican. Look back, that's what's been happening for a very long time.
So, now for the $64,000 question:
How far along on this road to oligarchy is this grand experiment we call the United States of America?
By the way, Happy President''s Day!

Just another example of Washington's greatness.
But, PR, you seemed to have overlooked a vital part of Larry's posting:
"The 'Alternate domination.' First one, then the other, and back again. Rinse, repeat. Democrat. Republican. Democrat. Republican. Look back, that's what's been happening for a very long time."
The GOP are just as guilty as their "leftist buddies." The fact that they are equally guilty is the problem.

Be careful, LL. You keep this up, and I'll be tracking your posts in search of another opportunity for giant chocolate-chip cookies.

Hey, alright! I never had a
stalker before! How do I handle this? Do I need to like, tell you my activities and stuff or you already got that part covered? I'm assuming you're not one of those 'malevolent' types, you're just, like, 'hangin' for the bennies', right? I mean, it's not that I'm, like, stuck up or anything, but those 'whips and chains' types really give me the eebie-jeebies, if you know what I mean. Anyway, yeah, let me know if the cookies start getting old, I got other stuff you might be interested in too.

Hey, calm down, LL.
I'm a passive stalker. Just toss an occasional chocolate-chip cookie my way, preferably a giant one, and I'll be happy. You are allowed to substitute with another type cookie...s'long as it's a giant one. I like cookies.
I'll be leaving now, as this is getting kind'a weird...or, is it just me
