Today in History

Today in 1846, The Donner Party, famous for being snowbound in the Sierra Nevada and having to resort to cannibalism to survive, was rescued.
Today in 1945, US Marines landed on Iwo Jima, beginning one of the bloodiest battles in the WWII Pacific Theater.
(Personal Note: Our late family veterinarian was on Iwo Jima. He said they started with 24 men in his platoon and by the time the island was secured, there were only six who had not been killed or wounded.)

Perhaps a sub-conscious awareness of The Donner Party is why I have never snow skied at Tahoe. The road there goes through The Donner Pass.

Of course it is more likely I have never snow skied in Tahoe because I do not know how to snow ski.

I was told that same shit. It's a little more complicated. There are these minor points like staying on your feet instead of your butt and not breaking anything.
