I must be the nightmares in a lot of peoples dreams, I seldom get more than two hours of uninterrupted sleep each night.

Easy, Paul. Take a chill pill and wash it down lots of hard liquor. That'll take care of your problems in sleeping. You'll pass out.

Any nightmares of mine due to you could only come from a fear of not living up to your high standards, NPP.

As it is, most of my nightmares stem from a shortage in food supply.

Thank you for your high compliment. I just faxed you a 20" pizza with everything except anchovies on it right out of our oven, home made and hot from the oven as your reward.

Thank you, and well done, sir. I'll eat anchovies, but they are not among my favorite toppings on pizza. Such a gesture on your part will certainly strengthen my already high admiration for both you and SWMBO...as the way to my heart is through my stomach.

But, then, you knew that.

From John Hodgson's new (very funny) book "Vacationland"

"I like pills for the same reason that I prefer liquor to wine. Gin and whiskey are chemistry, carefully formulated and distilled to crete a single repeatable experiment in intoxication, the same precise flavor and effect across the brand, bottle after bottle, glass after glass.

"Wine, on the other hand, is like religion: it's mysterious, sometimes literally opaque, and there are too many kinds of it. You never know if a particular wine is good or bad; you just have to take it on faith from some judgy wine priest, an initiate to its mysteries. And wine is also like religion because the people who REALLY get into it tend to be fucking unbearable."

My favorite wine is sherry. It follows he gamut from very sweet (creme) to very dry (sec, pinches your mouth). In addition, it is created through the "solera" method. This means that like other wines there are no "best years." Each year some is removed from the keg and replaced with the latest year's product. Like the stronger alcohols it always tastes the same. You can consider it multi-generational.

I would suggest beginning the way I did by starting with Amontillado. I did this because of Poe's story,"The Cask of Amontillado" and just had to discover what it was like. It is quite intermediate and you can go whichever way you want after making our decision. Keep in mind that the different companies have their own recipes so you'll have to try a few brands once you decide. I do prefer the imported ones though.

I opted for the dry side. The non-sweet types can be compared with a weak brandy.

As an aside: I met a man who was a wine distributor. I asked him why American wines, the next day, gave me a headache. I already knew that they were "aged" more quickly and in steel vats rather than wooden kegs. He told me to take an antihistamine before drinking. The fast "aging" is accomplished by adding histamines. I'll stick with the imported ones.
