Disgruntled California residents want to establish a 51st state — and they want to call it New California.

Organizers of the movement say the Golden State has become "ungovernable," and claim that the U.S. Constitution gives them the right to do something about it.

"We are not changing the country, we are adding to it," co-founder of the movement Paul Preston told the Daily News on Tuesday. "We are forming a new state, we want to become the 51st state."

"New California" would include most of the rural areas in the state — organizers provided a detailed map of what it would look like.

Preston emphasizes that the leaders of the movement do not want to leave the U.S., just make it better. He believes that rural areas are virtually ignored and don't have proper representation.

"California does not provide for its citizens a Republican form of government," Preston tells The News. "We are over-taxed, the education system is beaten down, our business climate is terrible. We have massive numbers of homeless people in California that is not being addressed."

The group issued a formal Declaration of Independence on Monday.

I couldn't agree with you more. Ca. is a beautiful State and it's a pity it's being run into the ground. There was a map of the proposed area and basically the old Ca. was a chunk of the coast from just north of San Fran south to the boarder. Of course there would be a huge fight as the bread basket of the State would be in New Ca. Hey, at least someone is trying and as with the President some times the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Good luck PR. Mike

I don’t think the liberals here had Republicans in mind when they decided to float this idea. The amount of input for Republicans would remain the same......little or none at all.

The problem would be solved if a group of Americans who still live in California would find a way to arrest and put in jail the governor and his minions who occupy the key seats throughout the state. Too, go after the leaders of groups like La Raza, etc. These people are communist and would like to see exactly what they are "ruling over " right now. The burg of Berkeley is exactly their ideal for the State. The key cities are San Fran and L.A. Fresno is "gangland." Send in the National Guard to arrest them and either jail them or incarcerate them on Alcatraz. These rogue anti-American politicians cannot survive without "thugs" (e.g., "the Clinon foundation" should be called "the Clinton Mafia"). Time for complaining and talking is over. They are the enemy and should be seen as the NVA is seen by combatants in the Vet Nam War.

LOL. Old news. For a long time yahoos in N. California have been trying to form a new state of Jefferson. In fact, in the sticks and boonies up north, some yahoos have the "new" flag of the "State of Jefferson" flying from their barns and outhouses.
