People were tougher , back in the day

out of the woods Loc: to hell and gone New York State

I was thinking about my grandfather, John Toye. He's been gone for awhile and now his children are vanishing, there were 10 including my mother, now three remain. The remaining three are now in the process of selling his legacy, Toye Lake an 80 acre campground in
Sussex, NJ. Here is a man who started with nothing, he took up boxing at 15, as both his parents had died from TB and he had siblings
to care for. He went on to own a restaurant, Tree Tops in Parsippany, NJ, then the campground and raised 10 children with my grandma
Gertrude. Of coarse the youngest children got raised by the oldest, another thing you won't see anymore and all the kids, when able
worked. They all survived without government interference, went on to have families of their own. Holidays are always a bit sad as when I was a child, there was always a gathering, all the aunts, uncles, cousins and anyone else who braved joining the clan. Families were families back then. Now it my kids and husband and I in the Adirondacks. My father in PA, brother in NJ, cousins in VT and Ca. Went to a memorial at the campground last summer, prayer flags of the many missing. It was good to see the place one more time, spent most of my summers there growing up. Well I miss my family, lets cherish the family thats left. Merry Christmas!

I know the feeling, out of the woods. I also come from a large family, aunts, uncles, and cousins. My father had five siblings and my mother six. Holiday celebrations were always held at my maternal grandparent's farm. Once they passed, things fell apart. I now have one aunt left, my mothers youngest sister. She resides at the local nursing home. Unfortunately, she doesn't know anyone. I doubt she knows herself. Although, I have numerous cousins, and an only sibling, a sister, remaining. Mary Christmas to you as well!
