...And Still In Production?

Here's a few clues:

It's the world's most successful television soap opera, it began broadcasting on this day in 1960. It went on to become the only soap to have triggered comments by a British Prime Minister in Parliament and to have received royal patronage.

Still not ringing any bells?

Set in the cobbled streets and terraced houses of northern England, not everyone at the Manchester studios where it was made were optimistic, some declaring that the show would be lucky to complete its scheduled 13-episode initial run.

Still none the wiser? Read this:

What channel is it on?
Who produces it?
Who are the main characters?
Has it won any artistic awards?
Are you really that dense?

In as much as this is a British soap which has never had zany exposure in this country I will have to agree with the others. It may have an extremely long life in england but everybody knows their hunmopr and popular fads surpass understanding to the rest of the world. So a record of this sort, in the English homeland, is more indictative of the Brits tolerance for strange stuff than the quality of the program.

The only soap opera I ever followed was Gunsmoke, first on the radio and then on television. Of course that was more horse opera than soap opera. Which reminds me, I misspoke it was two of these programs because I also watched the program called "Soap".
