Mendez and Moore: A Tale of Two Parties

Judge Roy Moore may or may not be guilty of allegations being leveled against him and if he is then he should have no place in the U.S. Senate or any other elected office for that matter. The operative word there is “if”.

While the media, Democrats, and establishment Republicans have been quick to rush to judgment, a few observers point out what should be obvious – the allegations of sexual misconduct have a curious timing. Why was what supposedly happened 38 years ago only brought forward when Alabama law prohibits any additions or changes to the ballot?

The supposed watchdog group, Media Matters, has led the charge in calling for Moore to withdraw from the race to replace Jeff Session’s Senate seat. While rabidly vocal about Moore, Media Matters is strangely silent about its history of covering for Bill Clinton and his enabling wife, Hillary Clinton.

“Since Media Matters is giving these 38-year old allegations so much prominent play (and Moore denies them) – why did MM spend so much time defending Hillary Clinton – the enabler of Bill’s behavior that resulted in allegations of rape and sexual assault? And why the hasty leap to the side of New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez – he too denying Moore-like charges of sex with underage girls,” wrote a watchdog site dedicated to exposing the leftist organization.

The power of the media to drive a story is best illustrated in some statistics that cannot be denied. According to The Daily Caller:

“The ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening newscasts have given 40 times more coverage to Roy Moore’s scandal than the trial of Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez.

From November 9 — the day Moore was accused of initiating sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32 — to November 13, ABC, CBS, and NBC dedicated 79 minutes and 42 seconds to the scandal.

That amount of coverage in just four days is 40 times more coverage than the corruption trial for Sen. Menendez, which has been going on for over two months now.”

Since early Fall, a sitting United States Senator has been on trial for corruption involving the abuse of his office. Bob Menendez (Dem – NJ) faces bribery charges and has his own sexual misconduct skeletons in his closet. But consider the disparity between coverage of 38 years old unproven allegations against Roy Moore and an active trial for Menendez.

NewsBusters.org reports, “From the evening of November 9 through the morning of November 13, the ABC, CBS and NBC morning and evening newscasts have generated 79 minutes, 42 seconds of coverage of the Moore case. (The numbers would be even greater, but three of the weekend evening newscasts were pre-empted due to sports.)

Contrast those statistics with those same newscasts’ paltry coverage of the trial of Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey. Since the trial began on September 5, NBC has offered no coverage whatsever.”

It is expected that Democratic leadership refuses to rush to judgment for Senator Menendez and joins Media Matters in condemning Judge Moore.

Senators Dick Durbin and Chris Van Hollen, as well as Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez, were allowed to avoid the topic of Senator Menendez’ hung jury trial during separate interviews on the Sunday talk shows.

The Senator’s party leadership has repeatedly refused to say what should happen to Menendez.

“I don’t know if we’d be in a hurry to get rid of Bob,” said a Senate Democrat who is up for reelection in 2018. “It would be a tough vote for folks like me, but I think the rest of the caucus would stick with him.”

Meanwhile, the networks continue to pressure Republicans to condemn Moore. The National Republican Senatorial Committee has pulled funding from the race and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Moore on Monday to drop out of the race. Seems like double standards win the day in Washington.

I am 74 and one thing that I have noticed throughout the years is this. I can remember the so called women coming out of the woodwork during Clarence Thomas's confirmation hearings for the supreme court and all of the hoopla that that garnered. Then there was the presidential primaries and all of the women that came out and claimed affairs with candidate Herman Cain and finally his wife got sick and tired of it and he withdrew. There seems to be a pattern that is emerging and that seems to be the MO of the DNC and that is to wait until it is to late to bring in another candidate and then have all hell brake lose with all of these accusations. As soon as their work is done they will all slither back into the woodwork and never be heard from again.
