Not one ...and I mean not one of our Veterans should ever be treated like this. These are our Patriots and our Warriors. These men and women gave up things that we couldn't even imagine. This makes my heart sick!!!

Incredible video has been released that shows Atlanta nurses laughing at a World War II veteran as he struggles to breathe and finally dies.

The video of one of the nurse’s deposition, along with changing her story after she was shown hidden camera video of what actually took place in the veteran’s room is shown courtesy of 11Alive.com.

The incident occurred at the Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehabilitation in 2014.

In the video deposition, former nursing supervisor Wanda Nuckles tells Mike Prieto, the attorney for the family of 89-year-old James Dempsey, who was a decorated World War II veteran from Woodstock, Georgia, how she rushed in to Dempsey’s room when she was alerted that he had stopped breathing.

Prieto: “From the time you came in, you took over doing chest compressions…correct?”
Nuckles : “Yes.”

Prieto: “Until the time paramedics arrive, you were giving CPR continuously?”
Nuckles : “Yes.”

However, the undercover video shows no one doing CPR and that Nuckles did not immediately start performing CPR on Mr. Dempsey.

“Sir, that was an honest mistake,” said Nuckles in the deposition. “I was just basing everything on what I normally do.”

The nursing home that Dempsey was living in attempted to stop 11Alive from obtaining the video footage.

89-year-old James Dempsey was a decorated World War II veteran from Woodstock, Georgia. He deserved better far greater care than he got.

They asked a DeKalb County judge to keep the video sealed and then attempted to appeal to the Georgia State Supreme Court. The judge ruled in favor of 11Alive and the nursing home eventually dropped its appeal to the state’s highest court.

The video includes almost six hours of video court deposition from a nursing supervisor explaining how she responded to the patient before she knew the hidden camera video existed. The video shows a completely different response.

The video shows the veteran calling for help six times before he goes unconscious while gasping for air. State records show nursing home staff found Dempsey unresponsive at 5:28 am. It took almost an hour for the staff to call 911 at 6:25a.m.

When a different nurse does respond, she fails to check any of his vital signs. Nuckles says she would have reprimanded the nurse for the way she responded to Dempsey. She called the video “sick.”

When nurses had difficulty getting Dempsey’s oxygen machine operational during, you can hear Nuckles and others laughing.

Seriously, this is a despicable way to treat a veteran, or any other human being for that matter.

Perhaps, in all of our modern technology, industrial society, and the growth of government and the strain on the family to make ends meet, we’ve lost sight of what is most important, taking care of one another.

My own grandfather and one of my grandmothers had to be put into a nursing home after they required 24-hour supervision.  While my grandmother was looked after, my grandfather was often neglected, sustaining many injuries while in their “care.”

Frankly, I think he would have been better off at home with his children looking after him than at that place.

James Dempsey deserved far better treatment than he was given at the Northeast Atlanta Health and Rehabilitation.

No one deserves what happened to him! How very awful, but it is a wakeup call.... investigate where your family member lives out their last years. Even if they live with one of their children.... be mindful of bruises, bed sores, and just plain neglect.
Some people do not value life as you and I do....

I am a Korean Veteran I was a Medic in Med Co 17th Infantry and I saw men With most of their head blown off and i saw men burn to death and we could not help them, and I see the NFL players Kneeling When the National Anthem are played those men died and many other for them to become Millionaires and it make me angry if they don,t like this Country,s Laws why don,t they move to North Korea and see where they can disrespect the laws there and become millionaires they would be killed and feed to dog,s as Rocket Man,s Uncle was for just trying counsel him for some effort he was doing wrong he killed his own Uncle and fed his body to dogs not only should all the people that don,t like The way this country was Established should move to North Korea.

I saw that video (I live in Georgia) and I could not believe the despicable way these black nurses treated this poor old white man. I hate to bring race into this but they were actually standing around laughing at him and he was obviously in distress. They obviously had no idea they were being recorded because once they found out their tune changed. The family settled with the nursing home for an undisclosed sum of money but the facility is still open for business. These places charge many thousands of dollars a month to see to the needs of those in their care and you should at least be able to expect basic human compassion from the people paid to look after them. If you have family or friends in one of these places it is your responsibility to keep an eye on them to make sure they are getting the care they deserve.

Would it not be karma if he haunted that room and those women! Sometimes I think that ghosts exist. True story,
my husband passed away in 2010.... I swear that I can still smell him or hear him call my name. We had a good marriage of over 30 years. We had 5 arguments in our life together... and those were in the early years when we were settling into marriage. Our last words were sweet.... no, he was not sick, his death was very sudden. I do not think, if it is indeed his ghost, that he comes around to cause me pain or sorrow, but just to check in every now and then. But, Mr. Dempsey.... as a ghost haunting these women, perfect payback! I often hope that I can come visit people after I pass, there are some....well, let us just say that I would love to scare the b--Jesus out of them! I know, that is an awful thing to say, but it would be fun!

I'll telll you Kankune, if I were the judge nad heard that slag sy "SIR IT WAS AN HONEST MISTAKE", I would have thrown her and the others involved immediately in jail with a $10,000,000,000.00 bond at the very least if it were even possible. To laugh while a veteran let alone any good person is struggling to just breath makes my blood boil!!!!!!!!!!GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. If you have ever had pneumonia either full blown or a lesser version like Ive had before it is a horrible experience trying to get as much air in your system just to be able to relax and perhaps sleep!!!!!! As far as a settlement is concerned by the facility I honestly dont know if they should have been held liable unless there has been a trend. Just because some of the workers have so totaly scewed up shouldnt require the facility to be slammed. I think? What do you all think? Im really torn about this.

Well, here's my thought on it Tap. It took that facility 10 months to fire those women. Yes....10 months. That leads me to believe that the facility doesn't care all that much about their patients. So, yes I think it should be closed. The treatment of a Veteran or any person that way is heart wrenching. Made me want to reach in that video and just rip them apart for what they did. 😔😔😔
