When I was in Hawaii visiting my daughter I saw some big waves but nothing like the ones here. Now these are also professional athletes that surf these big waves and believe it or not they train for these events. But I am with you and even standing on the shore these waves are scary let alone going out in the water with them. In my not so humble opinion one must be truly nuts to do so and then go and do it again is insane.
Don't keep up with the sport but heard a surfer broke his back a week or so ago.

People have died on those waves as they are dangerous and no place for amateurs for sure.
I've surfed ten to twelve foot waves and the power of them is too awesome to really describe. What those guys were on were in the twenty plus. I can't imagine the force of those things. I'm with Don, I'd never, in my best days, try those. Mike

Don, when you see them being towed by a jet ski it's because those big waves are traveling too fast to be caught by paddling, it also means that unless they time and position perfectly, they can't out run it. I can imagine the thrill but it's too much for me. Thanks for sending, brought back memories. Mike
