Today in 1867, the Unites States officially took possession of Alaska. At the time it was known as Seward's Folly, or Seward's Icebox. This was a dig at William Seward, who was the Secretary of State at the time.

Very informative and most true. One of the great places to visit and explore. Let's hope that they never get the idea to succeed as in "Caliphoneyia"
