I'm sorry, but after watching the today show I am pissed. How can a morbidly obese woman, size 26, be a role model to young children if you can't tie your own shoes. She says she's healthy. BS. The only thing missing from the photo is a harpoon.

If she were really positive about her body she wouldn't have marred it with all those tattoos .

Oh she's healthy alright! The corn fed kind of healthy!
Girls like her bitch about No one wanting to date them. Well, can you imagine the feed bill for a critter like that? Nobody can afford to keep them fed!
Then there is the nasty factor. If their arms ain't long enough to do a good job of wiping their ass, they're just nasty!

Both good points. I've often asked the same question about point #2.

Always good to know being obese is now being referred to as body positivity!

Do you know how many young women have died because of fat shamming? And do you know how many young women starve themselves to meet the public expectation of a "pretty body?" Anorexia is a huge problem in the upper class, I have a cousin who had her teeth wired shut so she could lose weight. I have had other family members get hooked on diet pills just to please other people. Oh yes, another had her stomach stapled, and the removal of over half their stomach and gut. Just so people like you can see them as pretty. I am a vegan, so maintaining my weight has never been an issue. But.... I have members of my family who are "rolly polly" and others who are always on a diet to lose weight. I feel sorry for them... because I know they want to be accepted by everyone they meet and regardless of how intelligent, personable, or gifted... they know that people such as yourself will never take the time to find those qualities in them.

Too bad that G*d decided to create people the way He did. But, between Him and evolution of humans, some people's DNA changed... and with that change came unfortunate problems with weight loss, some people regardless of how hard they try remain outside of "normal" or what most people consider "ideal." Yes, the woman in your exhibit appears to be fat. But, we do not know if she is unhealthy because her medical evaluations are not provided.

I understand your view, so do not take this the wrong way. I simply think that people come in all sizes and should be accepted for who they are, their contributions, and if they are happy.... leave them alone. If they offend your idea of "ideal" don't look at them. If you do not want your children to see her as a role model, have a talk with them about their own eating habits. Weight management starts in your own home and from birth. Don't wait till they are two ton Tessy and then shame them.

Yes, people should be accepted as people no matter what they look like even if they are very fat or very old. However, my objection is that she is celebrating morbid obesity as a healthy life behavior. As a person who has always battled with extra weight I understand the idea of acceptance. But I decided to maintain a weight that allowed me to work and do what I wanted to do without extra restrictions such as not being able to bend over to pick up a dog or move well enough to give shots to goats or deliver a kid. That was a better idea than asking others to do my work for me. When I was over 200 pounds I decided that I was shortening my life that God had given me to use well, not destroy. I am now maintaining 145 and can do what I need to do without using a lot of pain killers, and take care of NPP which is my privilege, not duty.

I was about to get my back up a little until I read your last paragraph. You are right. We are all built differently and should be accepted as they are.
I think the main point here was that promoting morbid obesity as normal is wrong.

Let me say part of what was going through my mind as I read your post.

What about skinny shaming? I am a skinny man, and constantly hear about it. My daughter is the same way. It isn't that we don't eat, it's how we process it.
If I didn't have an issue with my back now, I could work most men 1/2 my age into the ground. My daughter can out work me. But we are thin. It's how we're built. No amount of food can fix it.

As a certified Health Coach I can honestly tell you there is NOTHING desirable about being in this condition.! Every human function is thrown into constant turmoil with the extra weight. Extra weight is just a burden...

Hope she doesn't live in Chicago with the new (huge) sugared beverage tax. They'll use her in a before picture

In the same boat as you Arch, I'd still be working if my back was in order. Never had a weight problem, too skinny some say. I don't necessarily believe fat shaming is wrong, I won't personally ever say what I think. It seems that everytime I go to ChinaMart the store is filled with obese women and their kids, they're everywhere, and they act like it's perfectly normal. Society is promoting behavior that should be unacceptable. If you're so heavy that you can't push a cart to shop, and have to use a motorized one, it is a big problem(no pun intended ).
