I was prompted to post this by something I read in a posting by a lovely young North Carolinian in a thread I happened to browse through.

How many do you stand by?

By Sarah Westcott...Fri, Sep 19, 2014

These 'pearls of wisdom' were gathered from a group of over 60's

LIFE'S 50 GOLDEN RULES

Manners cost nothing
Treat others how you wish you be treated
Family comes first
Two wrongs don't make a right
Treasure friendship
Save some for a rainy day
Don't judge a book by its cover
Actions speak louder than words
As one door closes, another door opens
Laugh as often and as much as possible
All that glitters is not gold
Stay honest and keep your integrity
Keep an open mind
Never be afraid to make mistakes
You don't know what you've got until it's gone
Look after the pennies, the dollars will look after themselves
Only worry about things you can control
It's what's on the inside that counts
Never be afraid to shed a tear
Always have a smile on your face
Out of debt, out of danger
Don't speak with your mouth full
Listen before you speak
Try and see the good in everybody
The best things in life are free
Practice makes perfect
There is a light at the end of every tunnel
Make time for your favorite things
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
It's not what you know, it's who you know
Love unconditionally
Seize the day
You have to be cruel to be kind
If you don't believe in yourself, how can you expect others to
Forgive others so that you may be forgiven.
Always go with your gut instinct
Live everyday like it's your last
Be somebody's reason to smile
Don't burn your bridges
Time is a great healer
You only regret what you didn't do
Never let your fears get in the way
Don't count the days, make the days count
Strive for the best
Put your best foot forward
A picture paints a thousand words
The early bird catches the worm
Keep your head up and your heart strong
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer
If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back

A great collection! Sorry, though, it is too late for me to remember 3 things, much less 50!

Add: Remember all you can!

All great rules and not one with a bible verse attached to it. Just good common sense. There are many good verses in the Bible, and probably the Koran. Can we just have them for their common sense without someone attributing some religion to them, or some verse. Those of us that aren't of that religion might appreciate them a little more. I'm sure many f you religious types know some good ones. How about adding them to this list without the verses, as just good rules. Sorry to be a bit negative, but I get so tired of those verses with numbers. This list I can really appreciate. Thanks for posting.

There is only one golden rule, and it covers most of your list. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Then both have nice quotes, here and there. Good advice. But I wouldn't waste my time reading either. They are different books as part of the backbones of different religions. But neither is the word of God. They are men's interpretations of what God or some of his followers might have said or done at some time or other. Or some men want you to think is the words of God or his followers, etc. And they both have quotes I would never follow or recommend anyone ever follow. But you go for it. Just please quit trying to preach to the rest of us.

Sorry, wasn't trying to be cranky. Just my opinion. Maybe I am a bit cranky but a gout attack and the pain I'm going through right now might make me a little cranky.

You are delusional. The Bible has never been proven wrong about anything relating to Doctrine. Think about that for a minute. It was written by approximately 40 different authors, spanning a period of 1,500 years, yet there is a harmony throughout the entire thing. Ask any author just how impossible that is. I've seen many authors write about inconsistencies or blatant errors in a single book they wrote, let alone a multi-volume series of books. Such consistency is humanly impossible. Then there is Bible prophecy, with a 100 percent accuracy. Another thing that is humanly impossible. How do you explain this? There is only one explanation. It was written by God.

And you need to know , E
That Jesus did not die on the cross so that we could have A RELIGION
But so we could have a relationship with Him
Can't knock it if you haven't tried it

You obviously don't know, or don't believe, that you are a son of God, and owe Him respect. You don't believe in Original Sin, and you don't believe in Redemption. God knows all about you, but you are indifferent to Him. Perhaps there will come a time when you will change your thinking, and if so, God will welcome you into the fold. How's that for no numbers?
