This is not exactly off the topic but I need to say something. IT CAN HAPPEN HERE! We are not immuned to the horrors of Nazi Germany because we have a Constitution and Bill of Rights that grounds liberty in law. The people of Germany in 1938 would have heavily wagered it would never happen there. How did it happen? America is not safe. It may already be close to its last days as the greatest experiment in freedom. Few seemed concerned. Both sides digging an ever-deepening abyss for our liberty to fall and die.

Identify the top reasons people are unhappy and promise relief, identify their top fears and promise security, or identify their most fervent dreams and promise to facilitate them coming true. The holy grail, or hat trick for manipulating the public.............is combining all three into one agenda.
Find a population of people to blame, Jews, Blacks, Mexicans, whoever, and tell your people that these folks are screwing up your Shangri La. They're stealing your birthright, taking your jobs, screwing your daughters, preying on your elderly, promoting crime and violence, etc., etc., etc. Promise to deal with these awful people, protect your people from them and restore what they've stolen..............and folks will pretty much let you do whatever you want. What you say about demagogues and manipulation is true however how do you apply that to our nation where the predominant population in our prisons is the illegals. MS13 gang members are predominantly illegal and are the most vicious, hardened, criminals in the country. They blight and destroy every communuty where they get a foothold. Illegals vote in our elections and game the welfare system like cuckoo birds, and this is not stealing our birthrght? Their precarious presence, allows business owners to exploit them by paying low wages "off the books" and rigging hours of employment to minimize their costs while keeping the illegals in a form of slavery and you don't think this should be eliminated?
This last election demonstrated that very few politicians or talking heads are in touch with the problems of blacks and the working poor, anywhere other than in cities. They did not address the cause of the poverty enmeshing these people or the slide into poverty of the former middle class. It is not protectionism when our laws have been rigged to ensure the flight of decent manufacturing jobs all over the world. Especially to the areas which supply most of the illegals; we have exported our wealth and gotten their poverty cases in return. That is a recipe for dissolution and unless it is stopped we will cease to exist as a nation.
None of the pols other than Trump, presented a coherent approach to resolving the massive influx of alien invaders, much less shutting off the inflow. This is the United States of America, not Mexico. Our language is English, not Spanish and my children's schools should not be overcrowded with the children of illegal aliens who cannot speak the language and perforce drag down the progress of all students.

You are correct, it can really happen here. BUT, you should have omitted the last sentence in your post. You were doing okay until you pointed your finger at Trump. The crack that began to divide our nation occurred a long time ago, and the "Great and Impervious Divide", the "abyss" that you now allude to is political, ideological, racial, cultural, and spiritual. How you managed to lay this all on Trump is incomprehensible.
You would do well to reflect on the kind of government systems you cite that have you so "devastated." Yeah, they were Communist, Socialist, Fascist--IOW tyrannical. Where were all the decent German people? Good question. Daniel Goldhagen's well researched book,
