The parable of the sower

The parable of the sower

A farmer is scattering seed. Some seeds fell on the wayside and the birds come and eat them. Some seed fell on stony ground that wasn’t very deep. The seeds quickly germinated but because the plants root system hadn’t developed, when the sun got hot the plants died. Some fell among thorns and the thorns chocked the life out of the plants. Some seeds fell on good ground and bare fruit, some 100, some 60, some 30.
This parable must be the most important because it is the only one taught and explained in three gospels. Let’s analyze this parable. The seed is the word of God. Our understanding is the fruit. There are three scenarios that will make your understanding unfruitful. The first is being on the wayside. Some go to church and still are on the wayside. If you attend a church where they don’t teach God’s word, you are just as deceived as any criminal. If the word of God is presented, something will happen to divert your attention, and your understanding of God’s word will be unfruitful. The second is stony soil that is not too deep. These believe in bubble gum Christianity. They first hear God’s word and accept it as such. But when the God’s word goes against the traditions of men, they are afraid to make a stand. The third are those sown among thorns. These germinate, but the weeds get the nutrition, and the plant becomes unfruitful. The weeds or thorns are the cares of this world. If you want to prove God, by the actions of man, your understanding will be unfruitful. If you become too attached to anything in this world, you will be useless in the next. The bible speaks of an age before this one, and a world to come. Finally we get to good ground. The ground has been broken and had the stones and weeds removed. These people aren’t shallow and are willing to stand alone if the whole world disagrees. Don’t let anything in this world turn you from God. Following God is a choice.
