Two beggars were sitting side by side on a street in Rome, Italy.
One had a Cross in front of him; the other one was holding the Star of David. Many people went by, looked at both beggars, but only put money into the hat of the beggar sitting behind the Cross.
The Pope came by. He stopped to watch the throngs of people giving money to the beggar who held the Cross while none gave to the beggar holding the Star of David. He felt sorry for him.
Finally, the Pope approached the beggar with the Star of David and said: "My poor fellow, don't you understand? This is a Catholic country; this city is the seat of Catholicism. People aren't going to give you money if you sit there with a Star of David in front of you, especially when you're sitting beside a beggar who is holding a Cross.
In fact, they would probably give more money to him just out of spite!"
The beggar with the Star of David listened to the Pope, smiled, turned to the beggar with the Cross and said:
"Moishe, would you look who's trying to teach the Goldstein brothers about marketing?"

And how would you get where you needed to go without the Navy? Such a lack of gratitude is unseemly.

Marines have always applauded the Transportation Division of the Navy. We have great respect for them. Their chow ain't too bad either.

You got that right. I gained most of my weight in the Navy. When I got out of boot camp I weighed 165. When I was discharged 5 years later I weighed 220. Some of that was muscle, but not all of it. I always went back for seconds. Had too. Especially while underway. 14-16 hour days, 6 days a week, was the norm. That burns a LOT of calories.

The hardest I've ever worked was when we did an underway replenishment. We took on 1,200 rounds of 16" projectiles, weighing up to 2700 lbs each, and twice that number of powder canisters weighing 220 lbs each. It took us three days to complete. Hard enough in port, but try moving a one-ton projectile while the ship is rocking back and forth. Good times.

Yep, you certainly had bigger rifles and rounds than we did.

I got injured doing that. The ship took an unexpected roll and I got pinned between a 2700 lb armor piercing round and the bulkhead. Fractured six ribs. Was on light duty for a few months. I'm lucky it didn't do something worse, like mashing a hand or my head.

I was given to understand that Squids had very hard heads and were almost impervious to injury to said organ. Was I misinformed?
