Well howdy y'all.
It felt a bit more like the desert in Marfa today.
At last check, it had made it up to 88 degrees.
The clouds saved us from the direct blaze of the sun but that all changed when we got to Balmorhea.
At only an hour north of Marfa, the temperature was significantly higher and when we arrived a little after 6pm, it was still sweltering in the upper 90s.
So of course we just jumped in the spring and floundered awhile until the sun lowered near to the peaks of the westerly mountains.
The bass paid no attention to our crankbaits so we broke out the green earthworms.
There's something about those green worms that drives fish craaazy.
We caught and released a few decent bass in quick fashion but my nephew started jerking up lunker sun perch.
So we zeroed in on those little fatties and before long we had a mess of perch for tomorrow's breakfast.
We also hung a couple of channel cats but we released them.
Sunset watched us amble our way southward on that lonely strip of hiway 17, and back to the little quiet town.
I drove, and the two youngsters quietly gazed through the windows at the rugged landscape.
I can't even begin to describe the canvas of colors, shades, shadows and light that eminated from the setting sun and reflected upon the wide open skies and the desert terrain.
You kind of just had to be there to believe it.
A days work along with an evening of contentment has passed.
I'm settled comfortably now, and there's only one thing missing from this old mans picture.
And that's my little hazel eyed angel.
Until tomorrow my friends.
May you all find rest in a peaceful place tonight.
And a CORONA,With Lime to you too.....
