Sly Coyotes

Good evening folks

79 degrees was the peak temperature here in the high desert today.

Some fat puffy clouds rolled in before dawn and the early morning hours were crisp and remarkably pleasant.

And my oh my the wildlife was loving it.

Last night we spent only a few minutes at the lights observation point.

It was deserted when we arrived and our attention was quickly captured by a pack of coyotes that we spotlighted and followed down a dry stream bed in four wheel drive.

They made short work of losing us so we shut it down right there and listened to the night as we watched any and everything that moved including a couple of shooting stars.

It wasn't long before we heard the coyotes yapping and snarling amongst each other, when suddenly they went silent and we heard It.

The distinctive growl of a mountain lion came echoing down the ravine.

We listened hoping to hear it again so as to get a bearing on the direction it came from.

But after about fifteen minutes passed, the coyotes began yapping and yelling again, so we cranked up and headed back to the roost for a nights sleep.

We left early to install our site set up equipment and by 2 pm each site was up and rolling.

Again I must comment on the brisk early morning desert atmosphere today.

Even within the immediate limits of town there was wildlife up and enjoying the freshness of dawn.

We've planned to fish Balmorhea by late evening tomorrow.

Our work is cut out for us up until that point of the day.

I'm just about running on empty right now, so I'll say good night to you all.

Sweet dreams and soft pillows await me.
