Today in 1099, Jerusalem was captured in the First Crusade.

I included the link because the synopsis is worth reading, and I don't have time to type it out.
Today in 1789 was the Storming of the Bastille, a focal point of the French Revolution.
Today in 1881, Billy the Kid was shot to death, and one year later, the somewhat infamous gunfighter John Ringo was found dead.

Thanks, Loki. I read it, and became more educated in the history of the crusades. A note: The town where Billy the Kid supposedly escaped to and eventually died is about 45 minutes from my home. The name of the town is Hico, Texas.

From the Hico Chamber of Commerce via the internet...

"Another major thing that people think of when Hico is mentioned is Billy the Kid. There is controversy over whether the infamous Billy the Kid died in 1881 or in 1950. Popular belief here is that he was not killed in Fort Sumner in 1881 but eventually lived in Hico, under the alias of Ollie P. Bill (Brushy Bill) Roberts until 1950. Come visit the Billy the Kid Museum in Hico to learn about the legends and the history of the city while shopping for souvenirs and gifts. See all types of old photos and documents that tell the colorful story of early Hico."
