After watching all those westerns as a kid,
i looked up the truth about a lot of those famous scenes from the old west,
and found out that they were simply not true
For instance;in the movies cowboys jumped off roofs, out of scarlet ladies windows, and even off cliffs, onto their horses backs
this would not only injure the horse--possibly break his back, and the cowboy would be singing "yippe yi yo ky yay"for the rest of his life as a soprano
And when the cowboy hero wrestled the outlaw from his horse, usually at the same small mound,so that they rolled together
his hat could not possibly stay on his head, unless it was stapled or glued.Scopes tried this stunt out,and glued the hat on.
when they fell from the horses and rolled down the hill.the top part of the hat came apart, which left the hero looking a little rediculous
Finally, there was no (in real life0"here,bite down on this here bullet, while ii take that slug out of your leg"
the patient was prolly given copious amounts of whiskey
or other inebriant ,until he passed out

Love the old westerns. They were entertainment, not real life. Back then we knew the difference.
Although I do remember a friend of my dad's who was upset. His 4 year old son was watching Hopalong Cassidy fighting a bad guy and Hoppy's gun was knocked out of his hand. The 4 y.o. jumped up and said "here Hoppy, use mine", and threw his cap pistol through the tv screen.
True story.

Yep
The "DUKE" stood tall
He also had the most distinctive walk I've ever seen. No one could ever copy it.

Yes but in our youth few if any actually believed what we saw on screen. It was fun to be there vicariously but when the tv was shut off or the movie was over, we returned quite easily to reality. I'm not so sure about today's youth.....all the way through college.

I always wanted to be a Cowboy but could never afford a horse, but still can walk like the "Duke"
