Dozens of people were arrested in Berkeley, California this weekend after pro-Trump and anti-Trump protesters clashed in the city’s MLK Civic Center Park. Approximately 200 people converged on the park Saturday, and competing chants quickly gave way to various forms of assault as the groups threw bottles, debris, and, ultimately, punches and kicks at each other.

The event was originally scheduled to be a pro-Trump “Patriots Day” featuring several conservative speakers, including Lauren Southern, a Canadian alt-right journalist. But as soon as Berkeley antifa groups like Defend the Bay heard about the scheduled rally, they began planning a counter-protest for the same park on the same day. Police tried to control the chaos with orange barriers, but those were torn down when the dueling demonstrators began trading fists.

Members of the Oath Keepers and others who wanted to protect the Trump supporters were on hand, according to the Los Angeles Times:

AJ Alegria, 31, of Sacramento said he came to Berkeley to help defend Trump supporters. He said he pursued a counter-demonstrator down a side street and found himself surrounded by a dozen protesters in black masks who he said attacked him with sticks and pepper spray.

“These people create violence all the time…somebody has to stand up to them,” said Alegria, who was injured in the fight. He was treated by Trump supporters who bandaged his head, washed off the pepper spray and gave him encouragement, saying, “You’ve earned your stripes, bro.”

In comments to the media, Southern said liberals should take a close look at the antifa movement and see if they really want to get behind it.

“You see them all over the media saying, ‘Should we punch Nazis?'” Southern said in an interview with Berkeleyside. “‘Yes, we should punch Nazis,’ and their interpretation of ‘Nazi’ is anyone to the right of Marx.”

We’re sure the pro-Trump supporters gave as good as they got, but we seriously doubt the blame for this chaos falls on them. The media is acting like both sides are equally guilty. All we know is that you never see anti-Trump rallies devolve into this kind of uncivilized crap. And that’s because pro-Trump supporters don’t go out to the March for Women, etc. and start trouble. Can the same be said for the “antifa” idiots? Quite certainly not.

These people wear black masks and hoods, as they’ve been instructed on social media to hide their identities from the police. They are not out there to let their voices be heard; they’re not out there to represent a point of view. They are out there to shut down free speech by whatever means necessary, and that makes them little more than domestic terrorists.

It’s high time for the Justice Department to start seriously investigating these left-wing groups, find out where their financing is coming from, and hold their leaders accountable. What started out as an annoyance is beginning to get dangerous, and it’s getting worse with every passing month. To do nothing is to encourage it.

White supremacist caught on video sucker-punching woman Berkeley protester faces calls for arrest

notorious white supremacist got caught on camera sucker-punching a woman in the melee that erupted on Saturday in Berkeley, CA between pro- and anti-Trump demonstrators.

Nathan Damigo of white nationalist group Identity Europa was identified by multiple witnesses as the man seen in a viral video lunging at an unsuspecting woman with dreadlocks and viciously punching her before she had a chance to react.

Damigo is an Iraq War veteran and convicted felon who was released from prison in 2014 after serving five years for armed robbery. Damigo drunkenly pulled a gun on a cab driver, erroneously believing the man was Iraqi, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

He is currently unemployed, living on a family compound in Oakdale, CA.
