Matthew chapter 18

Verse 1

Nine of these disciples tried to cast a demon out of a little boy and failed. Their minds aren’t on what they can give, but what they can get

Verse 2 - 4

Children don’t learn to teach, but to pass a test. Religion teaches that we should obey Matthew 28:19 & 20 and Mark 16:15, while ignoring the fact that Jesus said “follow me” seventeen times. It is impossible to lead anyone to Christ if you have never followed him.

Verse 5 & 6

God is in control. Satan has deceived the whole world. A deceived mind will not accept the truth in God’s word. Don’t take it personal. One of the larger weapons in satan’s arsenal is character assassination. He has to use it because his logic is pathetic. Whatever reason a person has for not listening to God is between them and God. We are all sinners.

Verse 7 - 10

What causes us to sin? Do our hands cause us to steal? Do our eyes cause us to look at an attractive member of the opposite sex when we are in a relationship? Of course not, so what is Jesus talking about? He is talking about the many membered body. If someone is teaching against the bible, it better to remove them than correct their mess.

Verse 11

If you think you are saved already, then you don’t need Christ. God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.

Verse 12 - 14

Only the sick need a doctor. We would be wiser to follow Christ instead of trying to lead others to a Christ we never followed. God would rather we save the lost than collect the saved.

Verse 15 - 17

Don’t quickly break up with someone close to you. Don’t burn bridges. In my past, I have seen bridges dynamited, the refuse burned, the ashes urinated on, then the error discovered. By then it was too late..

Verse 18 - 20

God doesn’t work with large congregations but small groups. You have a better chance of learning in Sunday school where you can ask questions than the service where you cannot. This parable is only here.

Verse 21 - 24

If we want God to forgive us, then we must forgive others. We can liken 10,000 talents to a million dollars.

Verse 25 - 27

Because he begged for mercy he didn’t have to pay anything.

Verse 28

A hundred pennies is a dollar.

Verse 29 - 35

You shouldn’t forgive someone that hasn’t apologized. We shouldn’t enable those that mistreat us. If anyone apologizes for the wrong they have done, accept their apology.
